Services Performed
- Confirmed the customer’s concern regarding coolant leakage from the top of the engine. Performed a visual inspection of the cooling system and topped off the coolant to proper levels. A cooling system pressure test was performed using a pressure tester, and it was noted that the system failed to retain pressure. Upon further inspection, external signs of coolant leakage were observed near the radiator area. All other fluid levels were also checked and verified to be at proper levels. After the initial inspection, the engine was started to observe operating conditions under normal temperature. During this process, radiator fluid was observed forcefully bursting out from the top of the radiator, which is a strong indication of combustion gases entering the cooling system. This, along with the distinct burnt odor coming from the expelled coolant, points to an internal engine issue—most likely a blown cylinder head gasket or damage to the cylinder head itself. Based on the combination of pressure loss, coolant expulsion, combustion intrusion, and the burnt smell, it was determined that the issue is internal to the cylinder head and requires further engine disassembly to confirm the full extent of the damage.
