Services Performed
- Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine did not start. Performed a visual inspection of the battery and battery terminals, but found no obvious faults. Used a multi-meter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals and found the measured voltage was within the specified range of 12.4-12.6 Volts. Used a battery conductance tester to test the battery and found the battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which verified it operated properly. Used the multi-meter to test for battery voltage and ground at the starter motor and found both the specified 12 Volts and ground were present. Used the multi-meter to test for voltage at the starter motor solenoid terminal while switching the ignition to the start position, and found 12 Volts was present. These test results verified the starter motor was faulty.
- REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE STARTER MOTOR. DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AND MOUNTING HARDWARE, THEN REMOVE THE FAULTY STARTER MOTOR FROM THE VEHICLE. INSTALL THE NEW STARTER MOTOR, ENSURING ALL CONNECTIONS AND MOUNTING BOLTS ARE SECURE AND TORQUED TO SPECIFICATIONS. REASSEMBLE ALL REMOVED COMPONENTS, RECONNECT THE BATTERY, AND TEST VEHICLE START-UP TO VERIFY PROPER FUNCTION AND OPERATION.
