Services Performed
- Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine did not crank or start. Performed a visual inspection of the battery and battery cables, but found no obvious faults. Used a multi-meter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals and found the measured voltage was below the specified range. Connected a battery charger and charged the battery until the voltage returned to normal specifications. Used a battery conductance tester to test the battery and found the battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which verified it operated properly. Used an alternator load tester to test the alternator by placing the battery under load, raised the engine speed to 1,500 RPM, and found the measured alternator output was below the specified minimum amperage. Performed a visual inspection of the alternator wiring and connections and found no obvious faults. Inspected the drive belt and found the drive belt was properly tensioned but was severely cracked, which confirmed the drive belt was faulty. Used the multi-meter to test for battery and ignition voltage at the alternator and found all voltage inputs were present. With the ignition switched on, visually verified the charge indicator light was functioning properly. The results of these tests verified the alternator was also faulty.
- REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE ALTERNATOR. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. TEST ALL AFFECTED AREAS.
