    • REMOVE AND REPLACE BOTH FRONT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS. GAIN ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES BY REMOVING ANY NECESSARY COVERS OR COMPONENTS. CAREFULLY REMOVE THE OLD BULBS, INSPECT THE CONNECTORS FOR ANY SIGNS OF DAMAGE OR CORROSION, AND INSTALL NEW LOW BEAM BULBS ON BOTH SIDES. REASSEMBLE ALL COMPONENTS AND TEST THE HEADLIGHTS TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION AND EVEN LIGHT OUTPUT.
    • Connected a scan tool and found code P0128 – Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature). Performed a road test while monitoring live scan tool data and observed the engine coolant temperature sensor parameter did not respond. Using a non-contact pyrometer, measured the actual engine coolant temperature at the engine coolant thermostat housing inlet and outlet and found the actual engine coolant temperature was consistent with the reading on the scan tool. Very likley the engine coolant thermostat is stuck in the open position.
    • DRAIN THE COOLING SYSTEM COMPLETELY AND REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO ACCESS THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. REMOVE AND REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING, THERMOSTAT, AND GASKET, ENSURING ALL MATING SURFACES ARE CLEANED PROPERLY BEFORE REASSEMBLY. REASSEMBLE ALL COMPONENTS, THEN REFILL THE SYSTEM WITH THE CORRECT TYPE AND AMOUNT OF ANTI-FREEZE COOLANT. ONCE FILLED, BLEED THE COOLING SYSTEM AND RUN THE ENGINE TO VERIFY THERE ARE NO LEAKS AND THAT THE THERMOSTAT IS OPERATING CORRECTLY.

    • During the road test, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly, prompting a full inspection of key systems. Fuel system was inspected first and showed no immediate concerns—fuel delivery appears consistent. Moved on to the air intake system, where a visual inspection did not reveal any obvious faults. Performed a smoke test by connecting a smoke machine to the engine’s intake manifold. During the test, smoke was observed escaping around the throttle body, indicating a leak or malfunction in that area. Removed the throttle body for closer inspection. Upon removal, a visual examination confirmed physical damage to the throttle body, validating it as the source of the failure. In addition to the mechanical findings, a scan of the vehicle’s engine control system revealed the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): U0401 – Invalid Data Received from ECM/PCM U0100 – Lost Communication with ECM/PCM U0121 – Lost Communication with ABS Control Module These communication-related fault codes are consistent with electrical irregularities that may result from the failing throttle body or its connection to the powertrain control module (PCM). The damaged throttle body may be interfering with the data or voltage signals necessary for proper system communication, contributing to the engine stalling and system faults. Conclusion: The combination of the smoke test results, physical damage to the throttle body, and presence of U-codes indicates that the throttle body is faulty and must be replaced as the first step in resolving the engine stalling issue and restoring proper communication between control modules.
    • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN FULL ACCESS TO THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. REMOVE AND REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ALONG WITH THE ASSOCIATED GASKET USING NEW, OE-SPECIFIED PARTS. CLEAN THE SURROUNDING MATING SURFACES TO ENSURE A PROPER SEAL. REASSEMBLE ALL PREVIOUSLY REMOVED COMPONENTS AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS TO ENSURE CORRECT INSTALLATION AND OPERATION. PERFORM A COMPLETE SYSTEM TEST, INCLUDING THROTTLE RESPONSE AND IDLE RELEARN PROCEDURE IF REQUIRED. VERIFY THAT THERE ARE NO AIR LEAKS OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS PRESENT. TEST ALL AFFECTED AREAS TO CONFIRM THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING PROPERLY.

    • Performed a comprehensive electrical diagnostic on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee to identify the cause of the engine not starting. Connected a scan tool to the vehicle’s OBD-II port and attempted to communicate with the Engine Control Module (ECM) and other related control modules. Found that there was intermittent or no communication between the ECM and other critical systems. Proceeded with a systematic inspection of the vehicle’s electrical circuits, starting with a visual inspection of all related connectors, grounds, and fuses. Found no issues with the fuses or relays. Performed voltage drop tests and continuity tests on the main power and ground circuits to ensure proper supply to the ECM. Verified that battery voltage was present at the ECM connectors. Next, followed the wiring diagram to trace communication circuits for any faults. Utilized a lab scope to check signals on the CAN bus network and discovered a disruption in the signal. Conducted a physical inspection of the wiring harness and found that a section of the harness had sustained damage, resulting in an open circuit that was preventing proper communication between the ECM and other control modules. To confirm the diagnosis, temporarily repaired the damaged section of the wiring harness and attempted to re-establish communication. Once the connection was restored, the engine successfully cranked and started. Advised the customer that a permanent repair would be necessary by replacing or properly splicing the damaged wiring harness section to ensure reliable operation.
    • SAFELY DISCONNECTED THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY TO PREVENT ANY ELECTRICAL SURGES DURING THE REPAIR. REMOVED ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE DAMAGED SECTION OF THE WIRING HARNESS. CAREFULLY INSPECTED THE AFFECTED AREA AND CONFIRMED THE PRESENCE OF BROKEN AND FRAYED WIRES THAT WERE CAUSING AN OPEN CIRCUIT AND DISRUPTING COMMUNICATION WITH THE ECM. CAREFULLY CUT OUT THE DAMAGED SECTION OF THE HARNESS AND PREPARED NEW WIRING OF THE SAME GAUGE AND INSULATION TYPE FOR PROPER CONTINUITY AND DURABILITY. USED HIGH-QUALITY, HEAT-SHRINK SOLDER CONNECTORS TO ENSURE A SECURE AND WEATHER-RESISTANT REPAIR. PROPERLY ROUTED THE REPAIRED WIRING TO MATCH THE FACTORY HARNESS LAYOUT, ENSURING NO INTERFERENCE WITH MOVING ENGINE COMPONENTS. RE-WRAPPED THE HARNESS WITH PROTECTIVE LOOM AND HEAT-RESISTANT TAPE TO PREVENT FUTURE DAMAGE. ONCE THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, RECONNECTED ALL COMPONENTS AND SECURED ALL CONNECTORS TO ENSURE A PROPER FIT. RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND PROCEEDED WITH THE ECM AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM RELEARNING PROCESS. RELEARNING PROCESS: USING A FACTORY SCAN TOOL, CLEARED ALL STORED TROUBLE CODES RELATED TO THE COMMUNICATION FAILURE. PERFORMED A HARD RESET ON THE ECM TO REFRESH ALL ADAPTIVE MEMORY SETTINGS. INITIATED THE KEY CYCLE PROCESS TO ALLOW THE ECM TO RE-ESTABLISH PROPER COMMUNICATION WITH ALL CONTROL MODULES, INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM), ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS), AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM). NEXT, PERFORMED A CAN BUS NETWORK INTEGRITY TEST TO ENSURE ALL MODULES WERE SUCCESSFULLY COMMUNICATING WITHOUT FAULTS. ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO PERFORM AN IDLE RELEARN BY STARTING THE ENGINE AND LETTING IT REACH OPERATING TEMPERATURE WITHOUT APPLYING THROTTLE. VERIFIED PROPER OPERATION OF ALL AFFECTED SYSTEMS, INCLUDING IGNITION, FUEL DELIVERY, AND SENSOR FEEDBACK. CONDUCTED A FINAL TEST DRIVE WHILE MONITORING LIVE DATA ON THE SCAN TOOL TO CONFIRM THERE WERE NO INTERMITTENT COMMUNICATION ISSUES. AFTER VERIFYING THAT THE ENGINE STARTED RELIABLY AND ALL MODULES WERE FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY, THE REPAIR WAS DEEMED COMPLETE. THE CUSTOMER WAS ADVISED TO MONITOR THE VEHICLE AND RETURN FOR A FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION IF ANY ISSUES ARISE.
