Services Performed
- Connected a scan tool and found codes: P0131 – O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1); P0171 – System Too Lean (Bank 1) and P1101 – Intake Air Flow System Performance. Performed a road test with the scan tool connected, cleared the code, monitored the live data and found the short term and long term fuel trims were out of specifications. Performed a thorough inspection of the air intake system and found no apparent faults. Connected a smoke machine to the air intake system, induced smoke into the system and found when the oil fill cap was removed smoke exited the valve cover opening. The positive crankcase ventilation valve assembly is integrated into the valve cover and is replaced as an entire unit. The results of these tests verified the valve cover is faulty. Performed a visual inspection of the throttle body and found excessive carbon buildup in the throttle body. Used the scan tool to command the EVAP purge solenoid valve and the EVAP canister vent solenoid closed for the smoke test and found no signs of smoke, which indicated no external leaks were present. Continued to inspect the EVAP system by removing the vacuum source hose from the EVAP purge solenoid valve and observed smoke emitted from the EVAP purge solenoid valve, which indicated it leaked. Attached a vacuum pump to the EVAP purge solenoid valve and tested the valve by applying vacuum. The EVAP purge solenoid valve leaked and did not retain the applied vacuum. The results of these tests verified the EVAP purge solenoid valve was faulty.
