Services Performed
  • CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
  • Connected a scan tool and found P1299 – Cylinder Head Over Temperature Protection Active. Inspected the engine coolant level and condition, but found no faults. At idle, used the scan tool to monitor live data and found the cylinder head temperature sensor signal parameter was above specifications. Ran the engine and used an infrared thermometer to measure the engine coolant temperature at the engine coolant thermostat housing inlet and outlet. The measured temperatures at the engine coolant thermostat housing inlet and outlet were identical and at the specified operating temperature, which indicated the engine coolant thermostat had opened. Performed a visual inspection of the cylinder head temperature sensor and cylinder head temperature sensor wiring harness found no obvious faults. Used a multi-meter to measure the resistance of the cylinder head temperature sensor and found the sensor was internally shorted. – Customer acknowledged notice and gave oral approval of estimated repairs. REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. RESET ECU AND TEST ALL AFFECTED AREAS.
