- Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the battery light was on. Inspected the ignition system and the air intake system, but found no concerns. Used a multi-meter to check the battery state of charge and found the measured battery voltage was below specifications. Used a battery charger to charge the battery and used a battery conductance tester to test the battery. The battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which indicated the battery operated properly. Used the multi-meter to monitor the charging system voltage with the engine at idle and found the charging system voltage was below specifications. These test results verified the alternator was faulty. Confirmed the customer's complaint and heard an unusual noise from the engine. Found the noise became louder as engine speed was increased. Engine idling, used an electronic stethoscope to confirm the noise was coming from inside the timing belt cover. Removed the drive belts and timing belt cover. Started the engine and used the electronic stethoscope to isolate the noise to the engine water pump.
- DRAIN COOLANT. REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE WATER PUMP AND WATER PUMP GASKET. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS.
- MAKE SURE ALL WIRES ARE INSERTED INTO PROPER CAVITIES. RE-ASSEMBLE BACK TOGETHER. CONNECT BATTERY. MAKE SURE ALL OTHER WIRES ARE HARNESSED PROPERLY. TEST ALL AFFECTED SYSTEM.
