  • Observed the engine coolant temperature gauge and found the engine coolant temperature exceeded allowable specifications. Inspected the cooling system and found the engine coolant was low. Topped off the cooling system, connected a cooling system pressure tester, and pressurized the cooling system. Found engine coolant leaked from under the intake manifold. Need to remove intake manifold to find out whats leaking underneath. Customer was informed that we need to go into the repair to find the problem.
  • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD. FOUND COOLANT LEAKED FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET SET. REMOVE AND REPLACE UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET SET. ALL BOLTS WERE RUSTED AND HAD DIFFICULTY BEING REMOVED. AFTER REMOVING THE BOLTS WE HAD TO REPAIR THE THREADS AND BOLTS FOR THE INSTALLATION. REMOVE AND REPLACE COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR. ASSEMBLE EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. ADD ANTI-FREEZE COOLANT.

  • Connected a scan tool and found code P0015 – A Camshaft Position – Timing Over-Advanced Or System Performance (Bank 1). Used the scan tool to monitor live data and observed the camshaft position (CMP) sensor displayed an intermittent signal. Continued to monitor the live data, increased the engine speed to 2,000 RPM and found the CMP sensor remained erratic. Visually inspected the CMP sensor wiring harness and connectors, but found no evidence of any damage. Backprobed the CMP sensor signal wire, attached a lab scope and started the engine. While the CMP sensor signal was monitored on the lab scope, gradually increased the engine speed and observed the CMP sensor signal became erratic and dropped out. Continued to monitor the CMP sensor signal on the lab scope, wiggled the CMP sensor harness and observed no change in the signal. Disconnected the CMP sensor harness connector, inspected the terminals and found no faults were present. Key off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of a short in the CMP sensor signal circuit and found no short was present. The results of these tests verified the CMP sensor was faulty. Also this vehicle has low engine oil. Sludge build up inside engine will cause other internal problems. It will also need an engine flush with solvent to clean sludge build up. [PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VEHICLE MAY HAVE POSSIBLE INTERNAL PROBLEMS DUE TO VERY LOW ENGINE OIL]
  • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND RESET ECU.
  • FLUSH ENGINE OIL AND USE ENGINE OIL TREATMENT. RUN VEHICLE TO GIVE TIME FOR CHEMICAL SOLUTION TO SOLVATE SLUDGE BUILD UP AND DRAW AS MUCH OF IT BACK INTO THE OIL. DRAIN ENGINE OIL AND RUN SAME PROCESS MULTIPLE TIMES.
  • FUEL INJECTOR SYSTEM CLEANING. ADD FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER/ADDITIVE TO FUEL SYSTEM [MEANT TO RESTORE ENGINE POWER AND ACCELERATION. REDUCE IDLE AS WELL AS ELIMINATE KNOCKING]

  • Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine did not start. Performed an inspection of the ignition system and found no faults. Connected an inline spark tester to a spark plug, cranked the engine and found the lamp illuminated brightly. Inspected the air intake system and detected no obvious faults. Connected a smoke machine to the engine intake manifold, induced smoke into the system and found no leaks. Connected a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pump outlet, cranked the engine and found the fuel pressure was not present. Removed the fuel pump from fuel tank, visually inspected the fuel pump and found the fuel pump testing good. Removed and test fuel pump on the engine bay. Fuel pump on engine bay also tested good. Connected a battery charger to the battery and charged the battery. Used a battery conductance tester to test the battery, and found that the battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which verified that it was good. Connected a scan tool, attempted to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and found the powertrain control module did not communicate. Performed an inspection of the powertrain control module wiring harness and connector and detected no obvious faults. Disconnected the powertrain control module connector, inspected the connector and connector terminals and found no faults. With the ignition on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the powertrain control module connector and found both were present. Using the multi-meter, measured the resistance of the powertrain control module communication circuits and found the resistance was within the specified range. The results of these tests verified the powertrain control module was faulty.
  • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. TEST ALL AFFECTED AREAS.
  • COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

  • Confirmed the customer's complaint and heard a clicking noise when the vehicle was turned. Raised the vehicle on a hoist and performed an inspection of the constant velocity (CV) joints. Found the dust boots were damaged. Upon further inspection, found the CV joints were making noise internally when turning on both sides in the front. The CV joints are integrated into the axle shafts and are replaced as an entire unit.
  • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE AXLE ASSEMBLY ON THE FRONT LEFT.
  • Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the air conditioning was inoperative. With the engine at idle and the air conditioning switched to maximum cool, observed the air conditioning compressor clutch was not engaged. Visually inspected the air conditioning system wiring and connections, but found no obvious faults. Connected an air conditioning manifold gauge set to the high and low pressure service ports to test the air conditioning system pressure and found the system pressures were equalized at 0 PSI. The lack of air conditioning refrigerant pressure indicated a refrigerant leak was present in the system. Visually inspected the air conditioning system and found no obvious signs of a refrigerant leak. Pressurized the air conditioning system with a fluorescent dye, used an ultraviolet light to check for the presence of a leak and found the air conditioning compressor had leaked from a seam on the compressor, which confirmed the air conditioning compressor was faulty.
  • REMOVE AND REPLACE A/C COMPRESSOR
  • VACUUM AND CHARGE A/C SYSTEM

  • Observed the engine coolant temperature gauge and found the engine coolant temperature exceeded allowable specifications. With the scan tool connected to monitor live data, found the engine coolant temperature was above specified operating temperature. Performed a visual inspection of the engine cooling system and found the engine coolant recovery reservoir was empty. After engine cool down removed the cap from the coolant recovery reservoir, topped up the coolant recovery reservoir and installed an engine cooling system pressure tester. Applied pressure to the reservoir and found the reservoir leaked engine coolant. These test results verified the engine coolant recovery reservoir was faulty.
  • REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE COOLANT RESERVOIR RECOVERY TANK. ASSEMBLE TOGETHER AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. PRESSURE TEST SYSTEM FOR LEAK, CHECK THERMOSTAT AND HEATER OPERATION. CHECK ALL HOSES AND BELTS. DRAIN AND FLUSH SYSTEM AND ADD ANTI-FREEZE COOLANT.
