Services Performed
- Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine did not start intermittently. Performed a visual inspection of the battery and battery cables, but found no obvious faults. Used a multi-meter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals and found the measured voltage was within the specified range. Used a battery conductance tester to test the battery and found the battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which verified it operated properly. Used the multi-meter to test voltage drop across the battery to starter motor cable and found voltage drop was with specifications. Used the multi-meter to test voltage drop between the starter motor case and the battery negative post and found the voltage drop was with specifications. Removed the starter motor for bench tests. Used a set of fused jumper wires and applied voltage and ground to the starter motor and found the motor was inoperative. These test results verified the starter motor was faulty.
