    • Confirmed the customer’s concern and verified that the check engine light was on and the engine was running rough. Connected a diagnostic scanner and retrieved trouble codes P0301 and P0302, indicating misfires in cylinders 1 and 2. Performed a visual inspection of tune-up components and noticed that the ignition coils for cylinders 1 and 2 were wet, suggesting a possible fluid leak. Upon further inspection, found that the heater hoses run directly above these components. To confirm the source of the leak, connected a cooling system pressure tester and applied pressure to the system. Observed that the heater hoses were leaking, indicating their inability to maintain proper pressure. To resolve the issue, both heater hoses (inlet and outlet) will need to be replaced, along with the two damaged ignition coils, which have been compromised due to coolant exposure.
    • BEGIN BY DRAINING THE COOLING SYSTEM TO PREVENT ANY COOLANT SPILLAGE DURING THE REPAIR PROCESS. CAREFULLY REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN PROPER ACCESS TO THE HEATER HOSES AND IGNITION COILS. PROCEED WITH THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF BOTH THE INLET AND OUTLET HEATER HOSES, WHICH ARE THREE-WAY HOSE ASSEMBLIES. ENSURE ALL HOSE CONNECTIONS ARE PROPERLY SECURED TO PREVENT FUTURE LEAKS. NEXT, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS FOR CYLINDERS 1 AND 2, AS THEY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DUE TO COOLANT EXPOSURE. VERIFY THAT THE NEW IGNITION COILS ARE CORRECTLY SEATED AND PROPERLY CONNECTED TO ENSURE OPTIMAL ENGINE PERFORMANCE. ONCE ALL COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED, REASSEMBLE ALL REMOVED PARTS AND MAKE ANY NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS TO ENSURE A PROPER FIT. REFILL THE COOLING SYSTEM WITH THE CORRECT ANTIFREEZE COOLANT MIXTURE AND PERFORM A THOROUGH SYSTEM BLEED TO REMOVE ANY AIR POCKETS. FINALLY, CONDUCT A COMPREHENSIVE TEST OF ALL AFFECTED AREAS, INCLUDING CHECKING FOR LEAKS, VERIFYING ENGINE PERFORMANCE, AND ENSURING PROPER IGNITION FUNCTIONALITY.

    • Performed a comprehensive electrical diagnostic on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee to identify the cause of the engine not starting. Connected a scan tool to the vehicle’s OBD-II port and attempted to communicate with the Engine Control Module (ECM) and other related control modules. Found that there was intermittent or no communication between the ECM and other critical systems. Proceeded with a systematic inspection of the vehicle’s electrical circuits, starting with a visual inspection of all related connectors, grounds, and fuses. Found no issues with the fuses or relays. Performed voltage drop tests and continuity tests on the main power and ground circuits to ensure proper supply to the ECM. Verified that battery voltage was present at the ECM connectors. Next, followed the wiring diagram to trace communication circuits for any faults. Utilized a lab scope to check signals on the CAN bus network and discovered a disruption in the signal. Conducted a physical inspection of the wiring harness and found that a section of the harness had sustained damage, resulting in an open circuit that was preventing proper communication between the ECM and other control modules. To confirm the diagnosis, temporarily repaired the damaged section of the wiring harness and attempted to re-establish communication. Once the connection was restored, the engine successfully cranked and started. Advised the customer that a permanent repair would be necessary by replacing or properly splicing the damaged wiring harness section to ensure reliable operation.
    • SAFELY DISCONNECTED THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY TO PREVENT ANY ELECTRICAL SURGES DURING THE REPAIR. REMOVED ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE DAMAGED SECTION OF THE WIRING HARNESS. CAREFULLY INSPECTED THE AFFECTED AREA AND CONFIRMED THE PRESENCE OF BROKEN AND FRAYED WIRES THAT WERE CAUSING AN OPEN CIRCUIT AND DISRUPTING COMMUNICATION WITH THE ECM. CAREFULLY CUT OUT THE DAMAGED SECTION OF THE HARNESS AND PREPARED NEW WIRING OF THE SAME GAUGE AND INSULATION TYPE FOR PROPER CONTINUITY AND DURABILITY. USED HIGH-QUALITY, HEAT-SHRINK SOLDER CONNECTORS TO ENSURE A SECURE AND WEATHER-RESISTANT REPAIR. PROPERLY ROUTED THE REPAIRED WIRING TO MATCH THE FACTORY HARNESS LAYOUT, ENSURING NO INTERFERENCE WITH MOVING ENGINE COMPONENTS. RE-WRAPPED THE HARNESS WITH PROTECTIVE LOOM AND HEAT-RESISTANT TAPE TO PREVENT FUTURE DAMAGE. ONCE THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, RECONNECTED ALL COMPONENTS AND SECURED ALL CONNECTORS TO ENSURE A PROPER FIT. RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND PROCEEDED WITH THE ECM AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM RELEARNING PROCESS. RELEARNING PROCESS: USING A FACTORY SCAN TOOL, CLEARED ALL STORED TROUBLE CODES RELATED TO THE COMMUNICATION FAILURE. PERFORMED A HARD RESET ON THE ECM TO REFRESH ALL ADAPTIVE MEMORY SETTINGS. INITIATED THE KEY CYCLE PROCESS TO ALLOW THE ECM TO RE-ESTABLISH PROPER COMMUNICATION WITH ALL CONTROL MODULES, INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM), ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS), AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM). NEXT, PERFORMED A CAN BUS NETWORK INTEGRITY TEST TO ENSURE ALL MODULES WERE SUCCESSFULLY COMMUNICATING WITHOUT FAULTS. ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO PERFORM AN IDLE RELEARN BY STARTING THE ENGINE AND LETTING IT REACH OPERATING TEMPERATURE WITHOUT APPLYING THROTTLE. VERIFIED PROPER OPERATION OF ALL AFFECTED SYSTEMS, INCLUDING IGNITION, FUEL DELIVERY, AND SENSOR FEEDBACK. CONDUCTED A FINAL TEST DRIVE WHILE MONITORING LIVE DATA ON THE SCAN TOOL TO CONFIRM THERE WERE NO INTERMITTENT COMMUNICATION ISSUES. AFTER VERIFYING THAT THE ENGINE STARTED RELIABLY AND ALL MODULES WERE FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY, THE REPAIR WAS DEEMED COMPLETE. THE CUSTOMER WAS ADVISED TO MONITOR THE VEHICLE AND RETURN FOR A FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION IF ANY ISSUES ARISE.

    • Connected a scan tool and found code P0341 – Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor). Performed a road test while monitoring live scan tool data and observed the variable valve timing control solenoid parameter was erratic. Inspected the variable valve timing control solenoid wiring harness and connector and detected no obvious faults. With the ignition on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the variable valve timing control solenoid connector and found both were present. Using a set of fused jumper wires, applied voltage and ground to the variable valve timing control solenoid and found the solenoid did not respond, indicating the variable valve timing control solenoid was faulty. Performed an inspection of the throttle body and found the throttle body was coated in carbon deposits. – Customer acknowledged notice and gave oral approval of estimated repairs. REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVT) SOLENOID. REASSEMBLE ALL COMPONENTS AND MAKE ALL NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS.
