Services Performed
- Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the battery light was on. Visually inspected the starter and battery wiring harness but found no faults. Engine running, used a multi-meter to measure the alternator output and recorded 9.5 volts, which was below the specified value of 14.6 volts. Tested the battery with a battery load tester and found the battery had failed. Charged the battery at low charge for about an hour, performed a battery test again, and found the battery passed the test. The results of these tests indicated the alternator was defective.
- REMOVE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE ALTERNATOR AND DRIVE BELT. REMOVE AND REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND SERPENTINE/DRIVE BELT. REINSTALL ALL REMOVED COMPONENTS, ENSURE PROPER BELT ROUTING AND TENSION, AND TORQUE ALL FASTENERS TO MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS. TEST CHARGING SYSTEM OPERATION AND VERIFY PROPER VOLTAGE OUTPUT AND BELT PERFORMANCE BEFORE COMPLETING THE REPAIR.
